Compared side by side · Against a plainly labelled turmeric extract

Three ingredients, each assessed by the same question: what would you get instead if you bought the obvious alternative?

Before the comparison

Five of the six ingredients in the advertising — glucosamine, chondroitin, boswellia, MSM and bromelain — do not appear on the Supplement Facts panel. Our full comparison covers that separately.

Supplement Facts

Servings Per Container: 30
 Amount Per Serving
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) root Extract 4:175 mg
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) root Extract (95% curcuminoids)30 mg
Coleus Forskohlii Extract15 mg
Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) fruit Extract (BioPerine®)5 mg

Other ingredients: Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), Gelatin, Magnesium Stearate. Daily Value not established for any of the above. Transcribed from the product label supplied with this project.

What can be entered into a comparison

Only one line converts cleanly. Thirty milligrams at 95% standardisation gives 28.5 mg of curcuminoids, and that figure can be set against any competing product.

The 75 mg turmeric extract states a 4:1 ratio — a manufacturing description, not an active content. The 15 mg Coleus Forskohlii states no percentage. Neither can be compared with anything.

Our working estimate of 35 to 40 mg of curcuminoids per capsule is deliberately generous, so the comparison does not depend on an unfavourable assumption.

Gelatin capsule shell. Many plainly labelled alternatives use vegetarian HPMC and state which.

Where Each One Lands

1

Turmeric & Curcuminoids

The line that decides it

Both products contain it. One prints a verifiable figure for all of its turmeric and supplies a research-level dose; the other does neither.

2

Coleus Forskohlii

What you get extra

Present here, absent from a plain extract. Whether that counts as added value depends on joint evidence, which is essentially absent, and on a dose the label withholds.

3

BioPerine® Black Pepper

Where they draw level

Most decent plain curcumin products include piperine at the same 5 mg. Genuine parity, and a real advantage over cheap turmeric products that omit it.

What a Comparison Cannot Include

We cannot compare ingredients that are not on the panel, but since much of the marketing rests on them they need addressing.

Glucosamine and chondroitin. If you want these, buy them plainly labelled — they are among the cheapest and most widely available supplements there are. Worth knowing that their evidence is genuinely contested: the NIH-funded GAIT trial in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2006, with around 1,600 participants, found neither reduced knee pain significantly against placebo overall, though a moderate-to-severe subgroup showed possible benefit. European trials of glucosamine sulfate have been more positive than North American ones of the hydrochloride form.

Boswellia. Some reasonable osteoarthritis trials, acting on the 5-lipoxygenase pathway. Available as a single-ingredient product with AKBA standardisation stated on the better ones.

MSM. Several small positive joint trials. Cheap and widely sold on its own.

Bromelain. A pineapple-derived enzyme with anti-inflammatory research. Also sold plainly labelled.

The point of listing them

Every one is purchasable as a clearly labelled single ingredient, usually for less, with an amount you can read and compare. If one of them is why you were interested, buying a formula that does not contain it is the worst of both outcomes.

Cost

What It Costs, and What That Buys

Set by the manufacturer and sold through BuyGoods. The comparison that matters is not bottle against bottle but cost per milligram of curcuminoids, which is where this product struggles most.

Conflicting figures, recorded: the sales page carries three price tables that disagree. One bottle appears as $158 in two and $89 in the third; three bottles as $207 and also $177. Only the six-bottle price of $294 was consistent throughout and confirmable at the BuyGoods checkout. Read the total on screen before paying.

Struck-through figures are the manufacturer's published reference prices, not evidence that the product ever sold at them. "View Details" opens our pricing page and the official checkout link. We may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Pricing and the Figures That Conflict

Some people will read the comparison and want to try it anyway, which is a legitimate choice. If that is yours, the pricing page carries current totals, the numbers that do not agree between tables, and the interactions to raise with a pharmacist.
